Via GigaOm, EQO Communications has published a map showing global market share of public instant messaging services.  EQO offers a global IM interconnect service.

Its worth paying attention to this map if you are responsible for managing public IM connectivity for your users.   Here in the US most of the focus seems to be on interconnecting with AIM, MSN and Yahoo, but this map shows large adoption of additional networks such as ICQ, GTalk, and QQ outside the US.  Check out the above links for a more detailed breakdown of usage, and make sure your interconnection capabilities reflect the needs of your users, and the choice of service of your customers and partners.
